The Office of Faculty Affairs supports an intentional focus on anti-racism, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in order to promote and sustain the collective genius of faculty and the University community’s resilience. 

Land Acknowledgement

SF State occupies the unceded territory and traditional home of the Ramaytush Ohlone people. The Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development encourages and supports faculty to develop land acknowledgments specific to the contexts in which they teach and represent the University.

CEETL Anti-Racism Resources

SF State’s Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CEETL), part of the Office of Faculty Affairs, is in solidarity with Asians/Asian Americans, Latinx and Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), who continue to face the pandemic of institutionalized racism.

Asian and AAPI Solidarity Statement and Teaching Resources

The Department of Asian American Studies and CEETL have prepared an online Teaching Resource Guide for teaching in days after anti-Asian violence.

The guide includes a variety of resources that cover a broad range of subjects that can be helpful in teaching and learning, as well as outside of the classroom: the history of anti-Asian racism; de-stigmatizing Mental Health; stopping stereotyping, Asian and AAPI Allyship; donation opportunities; community-based organizations; helpful reporting outlets and data; and much more. Black Lives Matter

The Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CEETL) is in solidarity with those harmed by state violence, particularly Black men, women and gender non-binary people.

CEETL is grounded in anti-racist pedagogy framed in equity and inclusion for excellence because education is liberation. As we — faculty-students-staff — bear witness to ongoing police brutality and the bravery of people willing to put themselves in harm's way to fight against it, let us live and educate by the SF State motto, “Experientia Docet.” Let these experiences teach us how to liberate ourselves and others. Diversity Recruitment Team

The Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Team is a diverse group of college associate deans, department chairs and faculty who come from different backgrounds, expertise and disciplines. The team advances equity and inclusion in the tenure track hiring process across the campus community. Coordinated by the Office of Faculty Affairs, members of this team meet with hiring committees to engage in conversation about how to actualize the University’s commitment to creating a faculty that more closely reflects SF State’s diverse student body.

    Curated list of Other University Resources for Diversity and Inclusion

    Asian American and Pacific Islander Retention and Education (ASPIRE) is a collaboration with the Asian American Studies (AAS) Department and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (SAEM). The goals of ASPIRE include improving and expanding SF State’s capacity to serve high-need Asian American and Native American Pacific Islanders (AANAPI) and low-income degree-seeking undergraduate students, improving the learning environment and strengthening academic outcomes.

    The Bias Incident Education Team (BIET) works in collaboration with the Office of Title IX and Discrimination, Harassment, Retaliation (DHR) to ensure that reports submitted are addressed by the appropriate area on campus. 

    The mission of the Black Unity Center is to provide Black students, through cross-campus community collaborations and an intersectional, African-centered environment, with transformative, impactful and socially conscious programs that allow them to grow academically, interpersonally, culturally and professionally, in order to advance their recruitment, matriculation, retention, and graduation.  

    The Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CEETL) is the heart of the University’s commitment to a culture that values and rewards teaching, supports diversity among learners and promotes learning environments that foster social justice and the respectful and vigorous exchange of ideas in which students and faculty thrive and succeed.

    The Dream Resource Center (DRC) was established in 2017 to support the undocumented student population and students living in mixed status homes thanks to the collaborative efforts of students, staff, faculty and administrators.

    The Equity & Community Inclusion Unit opened in AY 17-18 and is responsible for leading, coordinating, implementing and evaluating a broad range of sustained programs, initiatives, events and activities that facilitate intercultural dialogue, promote equity and inclusion, advance social justice and improve campus climate for all.

    The Queer & Trans Resource Center is based on the philosophy that all students deserve their identities to be celebrated and honored by the San Francisco State University community.
